I’m four in this memory. It’s a hot summer day. I’m playing with my friend in the tiny back room of my home when my mother comes back from her shopping.
“Girls, I’ve got a treat for you!” she calls out as she walks over to us. “It’s warm today. Have this and cool down!”
In her hands are two tubes of colourful Jell-O from the corner shop, one in red, one in yellow. My friend and I eagerly reach for them and start sipping the sweet liquid from the top. Nobody speaks a word as the fruit fragrance spreads in our mouths and only our sipping sound echoes in the room.
