Illusion

I was waiting for my perfect day to unfold
The kind where I wake up to the sound of birds
Feeling light and fresh and rested
Followed by my morning practice and
A peaceful breakfast in the kitchen
Then I jump into my work
Energized and ready
Like I’ve been waiting for that moment my entire life

Instead
When I woke up
Birds weren’t chirping anymore
My body was heavy and groggy
Fighting to become conscious
I wasn’t even disciplined enough to push it through
It was close to lunchtime when I finally got out of my nest
I waddled around, doing my ‘morning’ routine
Then sneaked into the kitchen to grab my ‘breakfast’

My day is shorter today like a winter daylight
Disappointment looms large for a brief moment
Before the illusion gives way to reality
And I’m ready to take this half day as my full day
